The Best News From NYCC 2012!

For those of you not in the know, thats the best news from New York Comic Con. There were more then a few doozies this year, but I’ve chosen to tell you kids about the three that have me more excited than a green snake in a sugar cane field.

AGENT COULSON LIVES!

Clark Greggs ‘Phil Coulson’ first showed up in Iron Man and quickly became a fan favourite before his death at the hands of Loki in the Avengers. But of course this is comic books (kinda) so no one stays dead forever (except Uncle Ben of course). Coulson will return to headline Joss Whedon’s upcoming new tv show S.H.I.E.L.D. I can’t frakking wait!

New Superman ongoing series ‘Man Of Steel’ by Scott Snyder and Jim Lee.

Things haven’t been going so great for Superman since ‘The New 52′ dropped, the ongoing Superman title has being rather badly received and sales have been less than what they should be. Action Comics has been doing a bit better with Morrison at the helm, but he’s leaving the title at issue 16 in January. DC has already made some moves to rectify this by moving Scott Lobdell and Kenneth Rocafort over to Superman, but ‘Man Of Steel’ is set to be huge. In case you don’t know Scott Snyder is the writer of the current Batman series which is blowing fanboys minds all over the internet and Jim Lee is… well he’s probably the best known comic book artist ever (he’s pretty great). I’ve never been a big Superman fan, but I’m so fucking pumped for ‘Man Of Steel’

New titles from Image Comics!!!!

Image comics has had an amazing 2012, pretty much every new series they launched was a huge success, The Manhattan Projects, Saga and Peter Panzerfaust to name just a few (they’re also my favourites). At NYCC they announced more,

East of West – By Jonathan Hickman and Nick Dragotta, this series centres around the four horsemen of the apocalypse who return on a mission to kill the president of the United States. It’s Hickman writing it so yes I’ll be reading it and yes I’ll be loving it.

Three – Kieron Gillen and Ryan Kelly tell a story about the darker side of the ancient Greek city state of Sparta. Gillen told Comics Alliance ”I came home from these regular monthly drinks that we have in London and grabbed one of the nice hardback comics next to the bed – and in this case it was [Frank Miller's] 300. I picked it up, flipped through it, really not very much paying any attention to it. And [I read] one of the speeches about ‘The only free men the world has ever known’, and literally had a moment of incandescent rage and shouted at the book, ‘You hunted slaves!’ And at that second the entire plot of Three downloaded, including the twist, the structure, everything.”

Feel Better Now – Famous writer Jonathan Hickman illustrating an original graphic novel? You betcha! The one shot title will be about a group psychiatrists who begin to play with the lives of their patients, and the consequences of their games.

Todd, The Ugliest Kid In The World – by Ken Kristensen. Apparently it’s going to be unusual and like “Chew
